As many of you know, Rolla was totalled earlier this month. She put up a good fight and did her best to protect me. I will forever love her but it’s time to move on.
In the meantime I’ve rented a car for $1160 a month from Enterprise. With insurance included it’s a steal. I’m considering a 500$ a month budget for the vehicle itself for my purchase, however, there’s a major catch.
I will be driving 2000+ miles a WEEK for the next 3 months. After that I should be doing 3000+ miles a month. Just for reference, I’ve driven 30k miles this year to date.
Depreciation will be too much I’d have to keep it forever. I’m driving a fully loaded Rogue at the moment and now understand the appeal of the CUV.
So what am I looking for?
1) Highway comfort - 6'3 and built (shoulder hits b-pillar)
2) Fuel economy, 25mpg + (not gonna complain if I get 50)
3) Safety, after being t-boned I have 6 months of physio...
4) Safety/Driving assits
5) Panoramic sunroof
6) Apple Car Play/Leather
7) Electric Seats
Budget: 500$ a month/30k give or take Canadian
Use: highway... only myself or the gf and I.
I do prefer a higher ride height but am open to anything.

Be bold - get a cadillac ATS coupe. Preferably with the V6 so you get the cushy suspension. It’s basically an eldorado. Find one CPO or carmax’d to save yourself from the initial hit. I have a feeling 10-15k miles won’t matter much after a few months of driving.

WAIT STOP THE PRESSES, YOU CAN GET A CADILLAC ELR FOR JUST 30K!!!!!

Although.......if you drive 2000 miles a week it will negate the hybrid abilities a lot......Hmmmmm.

Accord V6 is always the answer.

Alright, how about the VW tiguan? It isn’t the best on MPG but you get some ride height, you can probably score a new or slightly used one for dirt off of a VW lot, and they’re pretty nice inside if you get the leather package.

Acura TLX? They drive nice, luxury sedan, honda resale value (even with high mileage), moderate pricing for a new sedan. Or failing that, get a last model year Acura TSX?

Early 2000s. Comfortable, get around 25-30, great passing engine for freeway, look great, leather, you can put aftermarket stereo in the gs without losing the looks of the center console, electric seats, and all this for $5000 or less!

Someone suggested a TLX, I’m gonna suggest a TSX. Should be able to nab one for around $10k-$15k in good condition. Although it doesn’t meet most of your criteria. I’m guessing no manual due to physio?

Whatever Volkswagen TDI wagon you can find in Canada?

Dodge Challenger R/T ticks most of your boxes (except pano roof) and is a great highway car that also makes the right noises. It also looks great doing burnouts.

Hmmm tempting but with the milage , I’ll be putting how would the reliability be? I know with the GS the auto trans has a bit of a history of issues. The LS won’t meet the fuel economy I need.

I
keep
looking for one but with the V8 it seems only last gen fits in my budget. I honestly love the Challenger, and my
gf
does as well.
Also
will it winter?
Other
issue I have is FCA isn’t known for their quality and reliability right now.

I’m 6'2", mostly leg, and I fit in a TSX pretty well.

It was high on my list but I just couldn’t do it with the milage . I just dont trust VW reliability to push 300k+ miles.

Which year are you thinking?
In general no manual for me. I drive all highway and with the hours I drive I
dont
want to have to think about shifting. It’s just one less thing to think about :(
Last night after 9 hours at the office I drove for an additional 4
hours .
.
. not fun to do that with a stick haha

I fit in the newest wagon but they come at a HUGE premium up here :/ and the last gen is the last available with TDI, I find it can be a bit tight

Yeah, no kidding.
No year in mind. I was looking at an 09 a few months ago for $9k with 150k on the clock. Seemed like a decent deal.

Holy cow, that actually is a pretty good deal. I’m guessing it’s all accord parts aside from the body?

Probably. 2.4 four cylinder, six speed manual or five speed automagic, almost 30 mpg. Everyone on Oppo who has had one or has one seems to love it.
And yeah, they’re pretty good deals. The only thing is the newer ones have the beak, which is a love or hate thing. I personally like it.

If wintering is a major concern, they make the AWD Challenger GT, but that’s only available V6 auto. Not sure about the reliability, but the V8s and 6 or 8 speed trans should be good. Why is the Challenger so expensive in Canada?
